Nice first attempt. Not sure how a 24mpx image ended up at 64MB though, that sounds too large even for raw.
If I were to make suggestions for the shot, I'd try a slightly shorter exposure so there wasn't quite as much highlight clipping and dropped the colour temperature a bit to reduce the orange cast. Of course, you're also free to do it however you want, that's the beauty of the hobby; no right or wrong. Nicely composed though.

I was at Goodwood the other weekend and caught a Porsche Owner's Club track day. A variety of rear engined machinery made their way, rather gingerly, round the track:

Sorry, it's the first one I've ever missed! Couldn't really not go to the 30th birthday party of one of my closest friends.

There was karting in the end? Would have liked to try the rift too. Any photos?

Great work, I just couldn't cope with the disorientation and screen shake. If I could get a solid hour to practice I think I'd mostly get used to it but my pockets are not deep enough at those prices! Let us know how good the track day is.

It did at least get me to play LFS online for the first time in years though, if only for about an hour. Public racing is a shadow of its former self!

Well I thought I'd give this a go today (it finishes tomorrow), so did some practise laps with the default set until I was frequently running regularly in the 42s (best was 42.50 HLVC valid), with the intention of having a fair chances at recording the fastest time (currently 43.33 for customers, 43.08 for staff).

My only concern was how the different equipment would affect my driving (as I've struggled with this in the past). The brake pedal feels quite a lot different (very weighty), and the FFB is a little stonger than my G25 can muster, and had that been the only differences I'd like to think I'd have quickly adapted.

What I really struggled with was being thrown around; I found it very difficult to focus on the screen during transients, and even struggled to judge the attitude of the car during the long sweeper onto the final straight. This severly hampered my ability to place the car on corner entry, and thus my times suffered.

I had two goes (6 laps); clipped the wall and spun on two, two were 45 something, two were 44.4.

Still, netted me 7th place on the table. I'd have tried more if it didn't cost over £1.50 per lap!

Not very popular today, despite being there at lunch time, but they have been there a few weeks already. Not sure if they're making any profit (not that this would excuse them for license fees!).

Photos attached to first post.

I just got back from the stand, chatted with the three girls staffing it and also spoke on the phone to their manager. I'm still a little unclear as to who is who, but there are two parties involved.

The company name associated with the display is "Xtreme 3D". Their manager, Paul, said that they are renting the simulators and software as a complete package (for the tidy sum of a grand a week, no less!) from another company, and have never had any dealings with Live for Speed (though they are aware that is the software they are using). The only mention of Live for Speed anywhere is on their twitter hashtag.

Scawen, I have two contact names and numbers I will message to you privately (see moderator forum).

Also, I will get photos off my camera this evening and post up here.
Best time to date for the adult competition is 0:43.63 (to win a Ginetta racing test day)
Best time to date for the junior competition is 0:45.32 (to win a Ginetta Junior Scholarship)

Edit: actually, some photos are latest times are available on twitter: https://twitter.com/xtreme_3d

Not had a bottle in years, but then I don't live there anymore. Maybe I should pick up a bottle or two for the weekend so I can reminisce.
Live for Speed in Meadowhall Shopping Center, Sheffield - WIN a track day!

As part of the Ginetta's promotional activities, they have setup two motion simulators, both with triple monitor setups, in Sheffield's large out-of-town shopping center, Meadowhall.

They are running Live for Speed at South City Classic in Formula XR, in hotlap mode.

£5 per go and prizes on offer (for the the fastest lap time are):
  • Adult competition: win a Ginetta racing test day - best time as of 6th Aug is 0:43.63
  • Junior competition: win a Ginetta Junior Scholarship - best time as of 6th Aug is 0:45.32
  • All entrants are entered into a weekly raffle, drawn each Saturday
World record is 0:40.66 so room for improvement yet, though I doubt they are using a super fast setup.

See http://ginetta.com/news_article?id=1647 and https://twitter.com/xtreme_3d for more details.

I will return with my camera and post up some photos. And then again after some practice to make a credible attempt.

Somebody should get Vic to post in this thread. All 3 devs talking in one thread must be a record, so then I have an excuse to eat copious amounts of cake.

TAUTV1S, you certainly know how to shoot "pretty".

Here are some from my photos from this years Sunderland Air Show. Really need a huge zoom to get good photos from the distance the aircraft were from the beach. Had to crop most of them quite a lot.

Aircraft have come out great, Ian. I'm going to the Sunderland Air Show at the end of the month, hoping to get some good ones myself then.

Quote from CarlLefrancois :from the Milliken book i'm reading (race car vehicle dynamics) it seems like the state of the art technology is to take a tire and scrub it against a moving belt at various angles and speeds and come up with tables of static data points.

This is how you get your reference data, yes.

Quote from CarlLefrancois :i believe LFS uses a set of fitted polynomials made to match these curves.

That's generally how empirical models work, for example Pacejka's Magic Formula (though that's a mixture of trigonometric curves with linear or polynomial modifiers). LFS as released uses Scawen's custom implementation of an empirical model.

State of the art these are not though, and this is where more physically based modelling comes in (e.g. brush, Dugoff, finite element, etc).

I've recently got more into photography myself, buying a modern compact about a year ago, and then treating myself to a DSLM back in April for my birthday. Following a few more people on Flickr now thanks to this thread.

Here are a few of my better recent shots:

Sorry for the late reply, I unsubscribed to this thread years ago when the program became obsolete.

If you downloaded the components archive from my site, you should have some .bat files in the archive to help with setup. For Windows 7 64-bit.

Quote from readme.txt :
Move to files to "Windows\SysWOW64"
Run reg_system_vista64.bat (you must use "Run as Administrator" if UAC is enabled)

Quote from jtw62074 :Whether or not LFS follows the simple formula discussed in my article, I don't really know. If it's using a set spring rate for each pressure and camber or whatever, then it might not.

Pretty sure LFS generates tyre spring stiffness values (vertical and other directions) from some constant tyre stats, and the dynamic pressure. So it's continuously varying as your tyres heats and cools (as this changes the pressure).
I don't recall camber influencing the result (in LFS) but it's been years since I looked into this.
